A flight, taking off from Zhuhai, Guangdong province to Beijing, hit a bird which caused a malfunction of the engine, China Youth Daily reported.
A passenger said she had experienced strong turbulence and noticed there was smoke coming from one of the engines with a smell of burning spreading through the cabin.
The plane landed safely and passengers were transferred to different airlines to continue their journey.
