 “降半旗”向遇難同胞致哀

2008年5月19日14時(shí)28分，在幅原遼闊的中華大地上，驟然響起了無(wú)數(shù)汽車、火車和艦船的長(zhǎng)長(zhǎng)鳴笛聲，一陣陣凄厲的防空警報(bào)聲也在各個(gè)城市拉響。人們都低頭肅立著，靜靜地為舉世震驚的汶川特大地震遇難者默哀3分鐘。此前，國(guó)務(wù)院已正式發(fā)出公告，宣布2008年5月19日至21日三天為全國(guó)哀悼日，全國(guó)和各駐外機(jī)構(gòu)下半旗志哀，停止公共娛樂(lè)活動(dòng)。

防空警報(bào)聲響起，汽車、火車和艦船笛聲哀鳴，人們肅立著為上周地震中的遇難者默哀3分鐘。
Flags were flyingat half-mast across the country and all public entertainment has been suspended as the three-day mourning period started. The Olympic torch relay is also suspended during the period.
在為期三天的全國(guó)哀悼日期間，全國(guó)各地降半旗致哀，停止各類公共娛樂(lè)活動(dòng)。此間暫停奧運(yùn)火炬?zhèn)鬟f。
上述報(bào)道中，stand in silence就是“起立默哀”的意思，at half-mast是“降半旗”的意思，用在句子里我們可以說(shuō)：Flags are at half-mast. /Flags are flying at half-mast.
哀悼日期間，除了suspend public entertainment（停止公共娛樂(lè)活動(dòng)），suspend the Olympic torch relay（暫停奧運(yùn)火炬?zhèn)鬟f）以外，外交部和駐外使領(lǐng)館還設(shè)了“吊唁簿”（condolence books），“股票和期貨交易”（stocks and futures exchanges）19日下午14:28時(shí)“臨時(shí)停市3分鐘”（temporarily suspend trading for 3 minutes）。
