The Department of Transport of Hainan Province is bracing for an increase in passenger traffic during the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush, with visitor numbers projected to surpass 23.4 million person times.
During the 40-day period from Tuesday to Feb 22, the island's three major airports are expected to accommodate about 47,200 flights transporting roughly 7.85 million passengers.
To meet the travel demands during this year's Spring Festival travel, Haikou Meilan International Airport collaborated with 12 airlines to increase flights on routes.
On the international front, on Feb 3, the airport will launch a direct flight route between Haikou and Tokyo.
