The 2024 annual conference of the International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM), the largest and most influential top academic event in the international community of Chinese mathematics, was opened in Shanghai on Jan 3.
Shing-Tung Yau, the first Chinese-born laureate of the Fields Medal, who initiated ICCM, said that for the past more than two decades, ICCM has done important work to connect scholars from home and abroad, who speak different languages and share ideas with each other in the common language of mathematics. Yau also said that the focus of talent cultivation in mathematics will be in China.
