Maka Botchorishvili, the Georgian Foreign Minister, on Saturday affirmed the country’s “top foreign policy priority remains European integration, with the current Government having laid a solid foundation for the irreversibility of Georgia’s European future”, at a panel discussion on the country’s foreign policy priorities, held as part of the Ambassadors’ Conference.
The discussion addressed the progress and future plans concerning the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and the importance of “preparing Georgia for EU membership”, with panellists noting Georgia “will likely be among the most well-prepared candidate countries, if the EU expands by 2030”.
Botchorishvili also overviewed Georgia’s foreign policy priorities, emphasising the importance of peace and stability for the country’s future amid the region’s current security challenges.
The participants also discussed the Government’s efforts to “advance the policy of non-recognition and restore territorial integrity through peaceful means”, highlighting the importance of “maintaining issues related to the peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict as a high priority on the international agenda”.
The panel discussion was moderated by Botchorishvili with the participation of Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the European Integration Committee, and Irakli Zarqua, the Chair of the Diaspora and Caucasus Affairs Committee.
