Samsung unveils new mid-range phone
South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has unveiled its mid-range Galaxy A8s to lure more young consumers in China as part of its effort to expand market share in the world's largest smartphone market.
Kwon Gye-hyun, president of Samsung's China operations, said the company will make strategic adjustments in the Chinese market, which means the smartphone models that have had success in China will be pushed to the global market, and innovative and cutting-edge technologies will be applied to mid-range smartphones.
Kwon said the company is fully prepared to fearlessly face any challenges in the world's most competitive market, emphasizing "they have come back to the battlefield."
In addition, they will continue to strengthen the celebrity endorsement strategy and try to cooperate with more brands so as to further narrow the distance with young consumers, gain insight into their core requirements and meet expectations.
Samsung will also launch customized products for female consumers, to satisfy their specific technological needs.
The Galaxy A8s is the first phone made with Samsung's Infinity-O display, which sports a true bezel-less display screen, with a small hole in the display to house the selfie camera. With a new hole-in-the-screen design, it tries to change things up by abandoning the notch trend.
The A8s is powered by a Snapdragon 710, with options for either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. Samsung has not yet announced the price.
