Disney brings Mickey Mouse's 90th birthday celebrations to Beijing
Mickey Mouse has just turned 90-years-old.
As one of Disney's many events celebrating the milestone birthday of its iconic character, an exhibition kicked off in eastern Beijing's China World Shopping Mall on Nov 16.
Running until Jan 6, 2019, the exhibition highlights include a 2.3-meter-tall golden statue of Mickey Mouse and a gallery looking back at his different styles since 1990s.
Created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, Mickey Mouse made his debut in the animated short film, Steamboat Willie, on Nov 18, 1928.
Probably the world's most famous mouse, Mickey has since headlined around 130 short films and was the first animated personality to have his star placed on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame.
The lovable character was first introduced to Chinese audiences in a Shanghai newspaper in 1932.
Statistics from Disney show that a piece of Mickey Mouse merchandise was sold every 0.2 seconds in the past year, and that one in three families in China have at purchased at least one product featuring the iconic mascot.
