FEI world cup qualifier holds Day 3 competition
The qualifier for the Longines FEI World Cup became the most-coveted discipline on Day 3 of the 2018-2019 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup China League Tianjin leg competition on Monday.
Erdeng Jirigala from China, riding Brikibo vd Bosbeek, was timed at 67.38 seconds with zero penalties to win the qualifier after claiming both the team and individual jumping competition in the first round. The turf course, designed by Paul Weier of Switzerland, suited the caliber of the FEI World Cup final. It featured 11 obstacles and 13 leaps, including a challenging triple parallel - double parallel combination, which easily causes faults .A water element then slowed down those who made good time.
In the speed and handlness jumping, only five jumpers among the 37 contestants finished with zero faults. The 12-obstacle course featured a rare stone wall as the first fence and challenging combinations peppered the course. Each fault at an obstacle costs four penalty points.
