Dell EMC storage products to strengthen China's big data push
Merged entity is bullish on prospects in the local market, given demand for data centers
Dell EMC, the merged entity of former Dell Inc and EMC, made its debut in China by unveiling its latest-generation storage products covering emerging areas like flash, converged and hyper-converged infrastructure and data protection.
The US company is bullish on the China market where there is a strong demand for internet data centers and technologies to improve storage efficiency, following a government push for the big data industry.
Dell bought EMC for $67 billion in September 2016 and now focuses on helping enterprise-level customers to build data center infrastructure. It also facilitates such customers' IT and digital transformation.
Dell EMC also launched a three-year support plan for storage products. "Dell EMC has launched this time one-stop solutions and services, which are more efficient, well-rounded and innovative and will surely provide better data center-related services for companies here in China," said Huang Chenhong, president of Dell Technologies, Greater China.
According to a report of IDC, Dell ranks second in enterprise-level storage market and accounted for almost 19 percent of market share in the third quarter of last year.
"Even though Dell and EMC used to be two separate companies with different coverage of clients, it proves that their integration has generated a very good income," said Liu Zhihong, general manager responsible for Dell EMC's data center solutions sales in Greater China.
"We have complemented each other's advantages. For example, Dell has helped EMC in regional sales while EMC assisted Dell in improving user experience. With the two becoming one now, I believe that it will generate more energy in China," said Liu.
After the merger, the number of Dell Technologies clients increased by more than 10,000 globally. Clients placed several new orders worth more than $1 billion over the past year.
Dell Technologies comprises seven brands including Dell, Dell EMC, Vmware, Pivotal, RSA, Secureworks and Virtustream.
